April 12 9-5 Carving a Viking Character $55
This introductory course is geared for people with some woodcarving experience but beginners with no experience are welcome too. We'll introduce the best and safest knife stroke techniques as well as get the chance to try many different carving knives. We'll briefly touch on topics including carving "with the grain" and how to keep the knife sharp. All materials are provided by the instructor, but feel free to bring your own carving tools. ("Flat plane" style carving knives will work best.) Students will get to take home a completed carved viking, and most students should have time to complete painting them as well. Finishing techniques will be discussed but not completed during the class due to necessary paint drying time.
